History of the First Suite
(Uniform Type: In School) Context: One morning, without warning, children woke to find that their parents weren't around. Some felt freed, some felt scared, but all assumed that, within a few minutes or hours, they'd return. But they didn't. Kids called their parents' cell phones and heard the said phones ringing in empty bedrooms. They called friends and quickly realized that it wasn't just their parents that'd disappeared; sometime in the middle of the night, every adult in the city had been blinked out of existence. In the first weeks after the disappearance, there was anarchy; most children starved or otherwise died - in accidents or as victims at the hands of others. Without a workforce with the knowhow to maintain the city's infrastructure, major utilities began to fall offline. Those who survived the first month of lawlessness were hardened by it, and they'd, by then, long-abandoned hope that they would see their parents or some semblance of normality again. By then, numerous gangs had formed, and they'd laid claim to various territories across the city. Those with pacifistic tendencies still hope that, someday, they'll find a way to rebuild; to achieve self-sufficiency, but, in the meantime, they fight each other over the fastly dwindling stockpile of resources. This is a period of confusion; of steady disintegration; of the sense that in their persistence they are merely delaying what has already begun and is inevitable. It has been dubbed 'the Coda'. (A note on time-keeping: Abandoning the calendar system of the before-times; in adoption of the musical theme implied by 'the Coda', a day is often called a 'beat', and a string of eight beats is known as a 'measure'. Different periods of rule - of balance or imbalance - are collected into 'movements', the ends and beginnings of which are settled upon in the court of public opinion.) ----- (Uniform Type: Going Home) The Coda, Movement I: Initial Panic Four Measures and Two Beats In the first Movement, most were too busy just trying to survive to do much else, but the Stygian Molls were quick to explore the city. They claimed territory, but they were not enforcing anything. As children struggled to find the new normal, there was the general understanding that there was enough danger already; they ought not to make enemies of one another. ----- (Uniform Type: Gym Uniform) The Coda, Movement II: Declaration of the Common Order One Measure and Three Beats In the wake of Executors' first massacre, the Echoes formalized, Ultimum Recursum established itself, and the Molls fell back, prioritizing defence over further exploration. There was fear in the air. Not that an official treatise had ever been signed, but the Executors of the Common Order highlighted the reality of the situation: the children could not really trust one another. ----- (Uniform Type: Swimsuit) The Coda, Movement III: War Five Measures and Six Beats Attacks on the Peach Union in Raison, as well as attempted assaults on the Echoes and the Wizards of the Last Arcade catalyzed both the Molls and Ultimum Rescursum. Meanwhile, Sex Party, slowly transforming into a cult, seized land across the harbor. ----- (Uniform Type: Club Activities) The Coda, Movement IV: Wildfire One Measure and Four Beats Expansion of the Executors continued, and though Ultimum Recursum tried to control them, they themselves were spread too thin. Ultimum Recursum's protection of the Echoes was a matter of principle, but the defences of the Wizards and Peach Union was a necessity. Believing the Molls too weak to protect the Wizards, conflict between them flared up, and Sex Party's intrusions led to dropped guards. ----- (Uniform Type: Casual Clothes) The Coda, Movement V: Fracturing Seven Beats The Executors stormed along, and Ultimum Recursum and the Molls quickly put aside their differences, both because they recognized that protecting Peach Union was more important than anything, and because, by then, the snipes and sneak attacks between the Molls and Sex Party had escalated; the Molls need safe transit through Miransile to confront Sex Party in the harbor. ----- (Uniform Type: Sleeping Over) The Coda, Movement VI: Collapse While the Wizards were able to escape with their lives, they lost control of the power plant. The grid has gone down; all communication is out; the Executors have taken control of the city. In Solare, the Molls and Sex Party have formed a temporary truce, and in Nexum, last holdouts of Ultimum Recursum hopelessly defend the Echoes. In the southeast, a collaborative resistance against the Executors of the Common Order is forming. The Plan from Here: The boats in the harbor were not made to do war with, but the Executors have nothing comparable in their arsenal; the resistance will go upstream; take Vischy and Aphra; abandon East Edge if they have to and push through North Nexum to Eschenham. The Executrix must die.
