From what I hear it's rather common for husbands to be away from their wives for a long period time because of their workplace culture. It's also just a setup for the games events to happen the way that they do. Although they're are some games that have it off where you play as the spouse being cheated on and that mostly involves going around and watching as you unknowingly (the character not the player) get cucked.
